Humans have shaped the world like nobody has ever did.
From building roads to cutting trees, it’s all because of us.
Without us, we might still be in the ice age, or some other organism might’ve taken our place.
But what would happen if we suddenly disappeared, like right now?
Initial Chaos
With us there’s chaos. Without us there’s even more.
The first few days after we disappear would be chaotic and bring huge changes to the world.
Without humans to feed them, zoo animals would break their enclosures and roam around freely in search of food.
Domestic animals like chickens and pigs would also do the same looking for food.
But many of them, pampered by humans, would become prey to dogs, hyenas and other wild animals.
Population of waste eating organisms like cockroaches and rats would plummet. Without us and our trash, their food sources would run out and surviving would be much more difficult than before for the little creatures.
Wooden structures would burn to the ground by a single lightning strike.
We will not be there to control forest fires too, so once a forest fire starts, there would be little stopping it.
Fiery chaos would be everywhere. Destruction and desolation would be the prime scenery as nature tries to fix all we’ve done wrong.
After Some Time
We’re now gone for quite some time, and our steel structures have rusted badly, many huge bridges have fallen as the rusted supports of the bridge can no longer hold its weight.
All our shiny, fancy steel stuff is now covered with brown rust.
Vines and creepers have also started growing around the remnant structures, and it’s all green around the place.
Out of all the Zoo Animals that escaped before, some have been eaten, and some have survived.
And the survivors have made the world quite an interesting place.
Because many animals are found in zoos despite of the regional habitat of the animal, the zoo animals would make the world quite different than what we know of right now.
Kangaroos in USA, Camels in Russia, maybe even Pandas in India! Who knows?
This will result to quite a weird combination of creatures in different areas.
Because the food chain is now highly affected by our absence, it’s all bonkers now.
It’s survival of the fittest.
Also, because we’re not here to harm the natural habitat of animals, population of endangered species will soon rise again and they would reach their older population levels.
It’s also a matter of chance that some species go extinct with time because they can’t cope with their new predators.
But this is only a matter of chance as there is no surety of what could happen.
In addition, all our plastic will still be hanging around. Because it’s not biodegradable, it will pose problems for animals who would try to inhale it as food.
After A Long Time
It’s been long since we’re gone, and there’s green everywhere.
Everywhere.
Creepers, crawlers, and general plants are growing all over the place and there’s a lot of greenery around.
Because of so much growth, it’s possible that there become even more species of plants.
And the animals have become weird.
Wildlife got unevenly distributed around the planet, there’s different animal species everywhere.
Why?
Because animals are now out of their older habitats and dropped into newer ones, they’ve adapted with their surroundings and it’s resulted in variations.
New species have formed, and there are even more animals than before.
Nature is restoring balance, but another disaster awaits.
With the uncontrollable population of plants and no huge considerable sources of carbon dioxide, oxygen levels would skyrocket.
Although oxygen is the life gas, overdose of anything is not good.
Too much of oxygen might cause extensive global cooling.
And not the kind we currently desire.
Too much of global cooling might result in another Ice Age.
You read it correct, Ice Age.
Something To Think
We now know that us disappearing will be disastrous, and the world will be hugely affected by our absence.
But there’s a thing in all of this that we should notice.
The world needs us.
Because we broke it.
We have done so much to Earth that if we go away now, it will go nuts.
It’s become all about us.
All that we do now is to enhance our lives and our luxury.
We have made so much stuff to simplify our lives that we’ve made it complicated for nature.
But in the end, times change, world changes, and maybe this is one of those changes.
Maybe humans exploiting Earth is a change meant to be.
Whatever it is, it’s an interesting one, and I hope it’s all for the good.
In the end, it boils down to you.
What do you think? Is humans exploiting Earth meant to be? Or have we got it all wrong? Or do you have some other unique opinion?
Whatever your thoughts, let me know through the comments section down below.
I’ve noticed a few errors. JUST before you mention the skyrocketing of oxygen due to no plausible sources of carbon dioxide, you mention that there will be an inevitable increase in the number of animals. Granted, some species will experience turbulence, but there WILL be some species in existence.
That being said, I don’t think the adaptation will be sped up that far along that the entire process of respiration will morph into something utterly unrecognizable.
What I’m trying to say is, that the sudden ‘boom’ in animal population will only add to the amounts of exhaled carbon dioxide, as carbon dioxide is a by product of respiration.
Get me?
Oxygen is also a supporter of combustion, so strikes of lightning will lead to bigger, and far more uncontrollable fires than one could imagine. The Ice Age is not coming for a long time, because the rate at which Global Warming is proceeding is something that will take a long period of time to stabilize by itself, even with the absence of mankind. Also, I looked up oxygen as coolants, and I found out exactly what I just said: goes BOOM! 😛
I also found out that liquid nitrogen is used as a coolant in the whole process, so thanks for presenting me with an opportunity to learn new stuff! 😛 (Read this! So cool! http://education.jlab.org/qa/liquidnitrogen_02.html )
And if we’re talking about a long, long, LONG time, you’ll be quite happy to know that plastic does decompose – but the rate at which it does so is so minuscule, it is considered negligible. It is pretty cool. 😛 Read this: http://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/everyday-myths/how-long-does-it-take-for-plastics-to-biodegrade.htm
Also, don’t take this too harshly. 😛
I am a science student after all. 😛
I actually quite enjoyed this! 🙂
And I know I just wrote you a whole long thing, so, sorry for that. 😛

Oh, so that’s how it works! I just made an assumption that this could happen, I think I’ll update it now with the right info.
I did read about liquid nitrogen sometime ago, it’s so cool! It looks so chilly and mythical!
Yeah, that’s why I think our plastics would be hanging around unfortunately.
Ah, it’s good! I learnt quite a lot from this too!
It’s okay, I would expect science-y comments from a science student after all. :p
By the way, you didn’t tell me what happened with the exams, still searching for me on Facebook?

And your assuming powers are pretty much on point! Sure, you do that! 🙂
Yes, it’s super cool! I didn’t know about it, so thanks for giving me stuff to research, lol!
Yeah, that’ll be sad, huh?
Good on you!
You would? I thought you’d murder me for raining on your parade! 😐
I looked you up, but there wasn’t any add friend option. How about you look me up?

Sad and pretty damn bad. 😐
I totally would (not).
I can’t find you. 😐
Can you send me a link or something?

Okay, I’ll do that! I’ll mail you, ’cause anonymity is lost if I post it here. 😛

Message vala which takes balance?

No, no! Facebook! Is there a way to message me? An option is usually on an unknown person’s timeline, yeah?

I think so, yeah! I’ll try!

Interesting post! Really makes one think whether the world would fair better or worse if humans were to suddenly vanish.

Good thoughts! Your post reminded me of an ASAP Science video that talked about something similar. You should check it out!

I did watch it before, it was an inspiration for me to write the post too, and some of the stuff written here I found out from the video.
Thanks for reading! 😀

Great post! And I think we’re like the dinosaurs–we are pretty much the most impactful during our existence, but if we were to die out, eventually, some other species would emerge

Thank you!
Yeah, I think so too. There could eventually be somebody who would take our place.

don’t know about all humans disappearing…I’d like to be around but maybe change into a bird or something 😉

Oh I’d love to change into a bird too. A birdseye view of our beautiful earth and flying around freely in all means, is a want for me.

And after the ice age and everything else that happens…. the plastic will STILL be there.

Oh yeah, everything will go, and the plastic still be there, haunting the other species to come.
