5 Mind-Boggling Paradoxes

5 paradoxes that will blow your mind.

Logic. It defines the world, everything that happens has some logic behind it.

But paradoxes are just the opposite, paradoxes are statements that defy logic, they usually contradict themselves.

They can be true and false at the same time.

Let’s take an example, if I say “I’m a compulsive lair”, is my statement true or false?

I’m lying because I’m a compulsive liar, but if I’m lying, then I’m not a compulsive liar, if I’m not a compulsive liar, then this statement can be true, thus, this statement is both true and false.

This statement is a paradox.

Now that you know what a paradox is, let’s take a look at some amazing paradoxes.

Prepare to get your mind blown.

1. Read this:

What is true and what is false?

This is the “card paradox“.

2. Who wrote the Hamlet?

Let’s suppose you buy the script of The Hamlet from a bookstore and travel back in time to give the script to Shakespeare before he started writing The Hamlet.

He copies it down and publishes it by his name, it becomes famous. It is published several times and eventually reaches the bookstore from where you buy it again.

In this situation who is the original writer of The Hamlet?

This is the “bootstrap paradox“.

3. Another time travel paradox

Let’s say a person, Sam, travels back in time and kills his grandfather before he met his grandmother.

This prevents Sam from being born himself which means he never could’ve made that journey.

If he couldn’t make the journey, his grandfather would be alive.

Which means Sam would actually be born and would make that journey after all.

And this loop would keep on going forever.

This is the “grandfather paradox“.

4. I cannot reach the bus station!

Let’s say I have to go to a bus station.

To complete the journey to the bus station, I’ll have to complete half of the journey first.

To complete half of it, I’ll first have to complete 1/4th of it, before that 1/8th, before that 1/16th and so on.

I can keep dividing the journey into infinite parts, therefore, to reach the bus station I’ll have to do an infinite number of tasks.

And theoretically, a person cannot do an infinite number of tasks.

So, I cannot reach the bus station!

This is the “Dichotomy Paradox

5. The Chicken or the egg?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Okay, everybody knows this one, I do not need to explain it.

Do you have any other paradox you’d like to share? I’d love to know more! Drop down to the comments below!

  1. In nut and shell we can say
    Everything is right
    Everything is wrong
    But we have to decide
What is right and what is wrong

    ……..
Means paradoxes help us to decide the direction in which we want to move ….isn’t it guys….

  2. The paradox of the “Gabriel’s horn” can be quite confusing as well. Imagine a figure with an infinite surface area but finite volume. Though it pales in comparison on some of the other mind twisting paradoxes in topology…
